Australian Political Parties
Currently in Australia there are only a few main political parties who run most of the countries goverments and councils. At present there is around 40 political parties on the Current List of Political Parties in Australia.
Apart from these main groups/parties who all have a differing amount of electoral support, Australians also have and vote for many individual candidates who are known as “independents”.

- The left wing is the Australian Labor Party better known as the ALP and they seem to be more focused on the rights of worker (ie. Social democracy).
- The right wing is The Liberal Party of Australia and they have a preference to cater for the needs and wishes of the business sector.
- The National Party of Australia is normally called “The Nationals” and is a rural-based conservative party.
- The political party dedicated to conservation and responsible environmental management is The Australian Greens who might be few in number but seem to be often in the media.
- The Australian Democrats have lost strength in recent years. Thir social liberalism was a loud voice “in its hay day” — which now seems to have passed.
- The CLP or Country Liberal Party offer a liberal conservative view and is predominantly in the Northern Territory.
- A new Christian-influenced conservative political party is the Family First Party who are passionate about making Australia the best country to raise a family.
